HONOR phones come with a free app called Device Clone. On older HONOR phones it is called Phone Clone. It works whether your old phone is an iPhone, another Android phone or an older HONOR.
Before you start
- Your old phone needs Device Clone too. You don't need to search for it: your new HONOR shows you how to download it. An old HONOR already has it.
- Make sure airplane mode is off on both phones. Device Clone won't work in airplane mode.
- Don't use either phone for anything else while it is copying.
- Charge both phones, or keep them plugged in the whole time.
- Be on your home Wi-Fi. Have your Wi-Fi password ready (it is often on the back of your router).
- Know your passwords: the code that unlocks your old phone, and your Apple Account or Google Account password.
- Keep your old phone. Don't reset it or hand it in until you have checked everything is on the new one.
- Give yourself time. Allow about an hour. Moving lots of photos can take longer.
From another Android phone or an older HONOR
- On the new HONOR, open Device Clone. It may be in the Tools folder. If you can't find it, go to Settings › System & updates › Device Clone.
- Tap This is the new device. Then choose what your old phone is: HONOR, or Other Android for any other make.
- Follow the steps on screen to download Device Clone onto your old phone.
- On the old phone, open Device Clone and tap This is the old device.
- Use the old phone to scan the square barcode (QR code) on the new HONOR. This connects the two phones.
- On the old phone, tick what you want to copy, then tap Transfer (it may say Next).
- Keep both phones close together and plugged in until it says it has finished.
From an iPhone
- On the new HONOR, open Device Clone (in the Tools folder, or Settings › System & updates › Device Clone).
- Tap This is the new device, then choose iPhone/iPad (it may say Apple).
- Follow the steps on screen to download Device Clone onto your iPhone from the App Store.
- On the iPhone, open Device Clone and tap This is the old device. On the HONOR, tap Next to show a square barcode (QR code).
- Scan that QR code with the iPhone to connect the two phones.
- On the iPhone, tick what you want to copy, then tap Next. Keep the iPhone unlocked with Device Clone open until it finishes.
When it has finished
- Check your contacts, calendar, photos and videos on the new HONOR.
- Coming from an iPhone? Turn off iMessage on the iPhone so you don't miss text messages: Settings › Apps › Messages (older iPhones: Settings › Messages) and switch iMessage off. See our iPhone to Android guide.
- WhatsApp chats need their own step. See our WhatsApp guide.
- Your new HONOR may also offer Google's own copying while you set it up. That works too: see our Android guide.
