New Motorola phone

Motorola uses Android's own copying, so there is no extra app to find.

Motorola phones use the copying that is built into Android. You do it while setting up the new phone. The exact words can differ between Motorola models.

Before you start

From another Android phone

  1. Turn on your new Motorola, choose your language and tap Start.
  2. Put in your SIM card, or tap Skip. Connect to your Wi-Fi and tap Next.
  3. When asked, choose to copy from your old phone. If your old phone is lost or broken, choose your Google backup instead.
  4. Follow the steps on both phones, then choose which apps and data to copy.
  5. Skipped it during setup? Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Android Setup notification to finish.

From an iPhone

  1. During setup, choose Set up using an iOS device (it may say iPhone or iPad).
  2. Connect to Wi-Fi and sign in to your Google Account, or create one.
  3. Follow the steps on screen. If asked, connect the two phones with your iPhone's charging cable.
  4. Choose what to copy and wait until it finishes.
  5. Already set up the phone? On newer Motorola phones, go to Settings β€Ί Back up or copy data and follow the steps.

When it has finished

Watch how it's done

Official videos from Android. The video only loads from YouTube when you press play.

We couldn't find an official Motorola UK video, so this one is from Google's official Android channel. Your Motorola's screens may look a little different. Pressing play loads YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube may then store data on your device. Watch on YouTube instead.
