Xiaomi phones come with a free app called Mi Mover. Redmi and POCO phones are made by Xiaomi, so this guide is for them too. Mi Mover copies contacts, messages, photos, videos, music and apps. Your things go straight from phone to phone and are not uploaded anywhere.
Before you start
- Charge both phones to at least 30%, and turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both.
- Your old phone needs Mi Mover too. On an Android phone, download Mi Mover from the Google Play Store. Update it on both phones if asked.
- Charge both phones, or keep them plugged in the whole time.
- Be on your home Wi-Fi. Have your Wi-Fi password ready (it is often on the back of your router).
- Know your passwords: the code that unlocks your old phone, and your Apple Account or Google Account password.
- Keep your old phone. Don't reset it or hand it in until you have checked everything is on the new one.
- Give yourself time. Allow about an hour. Moving lots of photos can take longer.
From another Android phone or an older Xiaomi
- Open Mi Mover on both phones. On the new Xiaomi, if you can't find it, type Mi Mover into the search at the top of Settings.
- On the old phone, tap Old. On the new Xiaomi, tap New. (Older versions say I'm a sender on the old phone and I'm a recipient on the new one.)
- Wait for the new phone to show your old phone's name, then tap it to connect.
- Choose what you want to copy.
- Read the messages on screen, then tap Send. A bar shows how long is left.
- Keep both screens on and both phones close together. Don't open other apps until it has finished.
From an iPhone
- Xiaomi says Mi Mover can also bring your things from an iPhone. On the new Xiaomi, open Mi Mover, tap New and follow the steps on screen.
- If that doesn't work for your phone, use Google's copying while you set up the new phone: when asked, choose iPhone or iPad. Our iPhone to Android guide shows how.
When it has finished
- Check your contacts, photos and messages on the new phone.
- Coming from an iPhone? Turn off iMessage on the iPhone so you don't miss text messages: Settings βΊ Apps βΊ Messages (older iPhones: Settings βΊ Messages) and switch iMessage off. See our iPhone to Android guide.
- WhatsApp chats need their own step. See our WhatsApp guide.
- If one type of thing fails to copy, Xiaomi suggests sending one type at a time: contacts first, then photos, then apps.
